I believe that the speed record set in 1959 still stands for single engine aircraft. I suspect I am the only pilot from the test force that is still alive. Joe Rogers was a great person and fantastic pilot and fully deserved to be selected to set the speed record.
Rogers’ FAI record was “retired by changes in the sporting code.” I haven’t checked the National Aeronautic Association data base to see if Joe Rogers still holds a U.S. national record, however.
